The Hangover

No this is not about the movie Hangover. Nor is it the one that results from consuming C2H5OH :P. It's the Hangover I have currently of Twilight Series. Nail it down to the "Oh-so-gorgeous" Edward Cullen. The very sound of this name will have millions of girls swooning across the globe. The Twilight series conceived by Stephenie Meyer is nothing short of a miracle. It was her dream one night which materialized into four voluminous books that now top the bestsellers list. Not only has it become a cult sort of thing but it is also stated to be the best fantasy story second only to Harry Potter series in the world of fiction. Popular for its vampirish content and immeasurable romance between the boy and the girl, this story got me hooked for almost two weeks and I refuse to be brought back to the real world.

All good things come to an end. *Sigh*

To make my obsession with this story a little more justified, I thought why don't I analyze the main characters from my perspective.

Edward Cullen: Synonymous with Greek god, exquisite, every girl's dream, protective, heart-breakingly beautiful etcetera. This kind of guy can only exist in fiction. A good vampire. A vegetarian one at that. What an oxymoron! He loves Bella out of this world and can go to any lengths to keep her safe and close to him. So much so that he does not mind sharing Bella's love with her best friend Jacob Black. Yet again, he burns to ashes if he sees Jacob anywhere close to touching Bella. Irrational. But his only motive is to keep the love of his life (and after-life) extremely happy.

Bella Swan: is a no-frills-attached girl. Talent or sports or walk without missing a step do not exist in her dictionary. Danger magnet is what people call her because she ends up in danger even in such times when it is least expected. This girl falls in love with two people. Beats me! Is it really possible? Recently, I read an article by a psychiatrist that it's quite possible for a person to fall for two people at the same time. Nevertheless, that person has to draw the line somewhere. Obviously. You are cheating two people here. Bella Swan was justified in seeking refuge and peace under Jacob's warm company when Edward ditched her and went off thinking it was right in doing so. Bella and Jacob became the best of friends. She thought of him as her morning Sun that'd always bring light in her dark life. Later when Edward came back, she had to tell Jacob that Edward was the one, always. Even though she was "in love" with Jacob, she was more so with Edward. Edward and Bella were inseparable. Being separated from Edward was like not being able to breathe. She, during her human life was so ordinary! Guess all that "I am a loser" thing had to be compensated for when she turned a vampire. She possesses such great skills that guards her whole family. As if, she was born to become a vampire. An extraordinarily talented at that one!

Jacob Black: I pity you man! You are hopelessly in love with Bella. You vow to protect her till her heart stops beating. Yet, you suffer more from the agony of seeing her with the bloodsucker. (Jacob's hostility towards the vampires has him calling names - Dr. Fang for instance (Carlisle Cullen), he also calls Bella - the leech-lover. Had he been able to foresee like how vampires did, he might have sulked less. He gets his reward for all his patience in the end. He gets imprinted with Bella's daughter Renesmee, who thankfully breathes some soul back into his life. When he discovers that the monstrous child in the womb is the one that almost kills Bella,  he loathes it to the core. He vows to destroy that creature and avenge for the pain caused to his Bella. But once he looks at her, she acts like the only string that's holding him in the universe. And he forgets all his hatred and builds a strong bond with her.

A happily-ever-after ending had to be on the way. Is it not?

Last but not the least:

Stephenie Meyer: I cannot help analyzing her motto from a business student's perspective. Her target segment is the teenage girl population that would give anything to watch Edward Cullen on screen. Not to forget fantasy addicts who are always on the lookout for new and untold stories that demand as wild and weird an imagination as possible. Nevertheless, she can be categorized along the lines of J.K.Rowling, although nowhere close to her. Well, JKR is something. There cannot be a second JKR!!

P.S: I can now hardly wait for the Eclipse. (Not the solar kind! :P)
